Hits from Germany

I note that I am getting a lot of hits from Germany. If you think that any of these names are from your long lost cousins, please leave me a note in the comments. I would be pleased to here from any cousins, no matter how distant.

Mitochondrial DNA

Mitochondrial DNA, that wee energy producing organelle,  is important as it is passed from mother to all children, and as such continues down the female line. It mutates slowly, and is responsible for production of our energy, ATP, from A-CoA. It has a lot to do with the glucose/fat ratio that is ideal for individual people.

Here is the way it shake out for Merris, Albert and myself.

---Ann Maxwell, b 1739 Ireland, m Sep 23, 1760 d 1810 Randolph Co, VA , Philadelphia, PA
---Katherine/Catherine Isner b 1763 m 1785 d Nov 1821
Randolph Co., VA Married John Phillips (b. 1760; d. Jul 1815, Randolph Co., VA) Dec 21, 1785, Harrison Co., VA
---Sarah Isner b 1780 Randolph Co. Va (her mother was 17),or 1782 in Elkins,WV1, and died 1854 in Randolph Co., VA m JACOB WEES, JR. September 19, 1799 in Elkins, Randolph Co.
---Hannah Weese b 1806 in Randolph Co., (W) VA, d August 08, 1888. She married WILLIAM MCLAIN.
---Martha MCLAIN, (Marth McLean 1833-1931) m. Joesph Teter Rohrbaugh b. 1831.
---Hannah Martha Rorabuugh 1859-1933
---Emma Constance Schenelle 1889-1980
and you know the remainder

So our Mitochondrial DNA is Irish. Now that is important, for the Irish are Celtic generally, and as such do better on a high fat / low carbohydrate. We are though to be are from the first batch of peoples that left Africa, some 40,000-50,000 years ago. The big bunch that came out 10,000 years ago pushed the first batch out of the Mediterranean area, and are much better adapted to eat wheat, and grains in general. But I digress.

MICHAEL ISENER (ISNER). Paid £3 12sh for 48 days. He was born about 1732 in Germany, and emigrated to Pennsylvania on the Neptune before settling in the Tygarts Valley. He signed as Melchor Eisnert on an allegiance from the passengers at Philadelphia on 24 September 1753.29 He had made two settlements by 1778: one near the Evermans at the present Glenmore Subdivision, and another at the mouth of Chenoweth Creek on the west side of the Tygarts River. He is, no doubt, the Michael Austner who was at the vendue sale of David White. He served on the first grand jury in Randolph County in 1787, and was living in 1790.30 Two of his sons filed pension applications on 1 November 1834. Thomas Isner, the elder of the two (born 1758), states that he "was raised in Randolph County, Virginia" but says nothing about his birthplace.31

Artefact - Little Level

The story of this little level is that it came from Gus's to our place to level a kerosene refrigerator. Gus said hold on to it, for now, and there was a story where it came from.

It was the last remaining part of his first thrashing machine. The level was part of the miscellaneous stuff that came with the Red River. It had two places that needed to be checked for level, one to check the cross level, and one to check the longitudinal level. The issues were the grain would flow to the downhill side it it was not level, and the grain screens need to be at the correct angle for efficiency, else it would put grain over or not produce well.

The Red River were Canadian made wood frame, (mostly wood) machine. It was horse powered with a two horse tread mill, that I recall sat in the shed north of the horse barn. It, along with the Sawyer Massey went to the museum East of Carvel. The museum was where the ski hill is at, the one that Clifford worked on building, running a scraper on in perhaps 1972. As I recall, the Sawyer Massey was one of those sold to Battleford or Triangle at the museum dissolution.

The  Red River was sold as part of the deal to get the Sawyer Massey and the McCormick steel frame thrashing machine.
